- Global Lubricants Week 2018: focus on waste oils management
Issues of environmentally safe management of used lubricants, as well as transformer oils contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), were discussed during the Global Lubricants Week, held in Moscow from 9 to 12 October 2018.
- Visit of the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) delegation
On October 15, experts from the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) visited Moscow. The agenda included visit to the production site of the UNIDO / GEF / Russian Railroads JSC project “Environmentally Sound Management and Final Disposal of PCBs at Russian Railroads network and Other PCBs Owners”, as well as negotiations on joining the UNIDO and NEFCO efforts regarding implementation of the Stockholm Convention on POPs in the Russian Federation.
- Is waste-to-energy a sustainable solution?
Policymakers, experts and academics from Germany, Austria, Brazil, Switzerland and Russia, came together at the Russian Energy Week to discuss how to how to deal with increasing volumes of waste and increasing demand for energy. At a session entitled “Strengthening international alliances for localization of Waste-to-Energy solutions”, participants shared experiences of the implementation of waste-to-energy solutions in their respective countries.
- The Global Forum on Naturally Based and Convergent Technologies will be held on September 28-29 in Sochi. Participants of the Forum will be offered to pass a survey on barriers to the development and introduction of new technologies
The topic related to the problems and barriers to the development and introduction of new technologies requires a special attention and cannot be separated from the discussion of the range of opportunities that are created by the scientific and technological directions formed at the junction of nano-, bio-, information-, cognitive-, social- sciences that are combined in a complex of Naturally Based and Convergent technologies.
- Second Baikal International Ecological Water Forum concluded in Irkutsk
The Second Baikal International Ecological Water Forum was held in Irkutsk on 20-21 September 2018. The event organized by the Government of Irkutsk oblast brought together more than 1000 participants from 32 countries. As part of the business programme of the Forum, issues of international cooperation in the field of preservation of lake ecosystems, introduction of innovative technologies in water treatment and waste management, environmental education and other related questions were discussed.
- UNIDO workshop on development of waste management solution was conducted in Astrakhan city
The purpose of the workshop conducted on the 1st of August was to discuss current situation and to develop an integrated solution for the management of waste and sludge at the city level with most of the stakeholders involved in the process: environmental specialists, representatives of city departments and services, municipal enterprises and non-profit organizations.

- UNIDO Centre at INNOPROM 2018
On July 1-11, 2018, took place the International Industrial Exhibition INNOPROM 2018 in Yekaterinburg, that brought together more that 600 companies from 20 countries. Among the participants of the event were representatives of the UNIDO Centre in Russia.
- UNIDO at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum - 2018
From 24 to 26 May 2018 the annual St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) was held in the city of Saint Petersburg, as in previous years attended by UNIDO.
- Speakers of SPIEF have announced that the Global Forum on Nature-Like and Convergent Technologies will be convened in Russia
On May 24th, the SPIEF panel session titled “Nature-Like Technologies: Responding to Major Challenges” was held, during which the speakers have announced that the Global Forum on Nature-Like and Convergent Technologies for Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID) will be convened on 27-29 September 2018 in Sochi.
